Earning a pilot's license on an average requires 45 hours of flight time, considerable ground school training (through a class or self-study), and a fair amount of study on the student pilot's own time--about equal to a part-time job. While many young people are excited by the idea of flying, many underestimate the work involved or lack the resources to see flight training through.
The goal of the Green Castle Aero Club Foundation is to remove barriers that keep young people from achieving their dream of becoming a pilot. The Bill Kimble Flight Scholarship covers all the expenses of flight training for Phase I. All that's asked of the student is to commit the time to study (about one night a week for about 10 weeks). While learning the theory of flight, students will also meet pilots in the Green Castle community and get a better sense of what's involved to become one.
The Green Castle Aero Club is an ideal place to undertake the sometimes arduous but exciting task of learning to fly. The Club is located at Green Castle Airport, on F28 about 5 miles west of North Liberty. We have nearly 150 members with a wide range of experience. We have a number of active Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) who are available to provide formal and informal instruction as well as offer advice or answer any questions you may have about flight training.
You and your family are welcome to visit us at one of our meetings or whenever you are free. The Club's phone number is (319) 545-2101. Or visit our website CONTACT US page for more ways to connect.
You may also contact the Scholarship Committee Chair, Dean Beranek at (563) 506-2665 or [email protected].
